Knee joint pain

Knee joint pain can be caused by knee tendonitis, knee bursitis, osteoarthritis of the knee and torn ligament or cartilage. Pain in the knee can be caused by injury from sports and the natural aging process where osteoarthritis of the knee or knee tendonitis can develop. Always bear in mind that knee tendonitis is a common knee injury.

Injuries on the ligaments can cause severe pain where there is a popping sound and difficulty putting weight on the knee, the affected person usually walks with a limp and there is difficulty in walking and causes pain. Knee tendonitis causes inflammation on both knees and causes the kneecap to swell. As for osteoarthritis of the knee, it causes tears on the cartilage and the joints of the knee are swollen, stiff and there is loss of flexibility. As for rheumatoid arthritis, it causes swelling and inflammation of the joints.


  • Wear a brace or support for the knee since it helps in stabilizing the joints in the knee
  • Take plenty of rest especially the affected knee
  • Apply a cold compress or ice pack over the affected knee. Another alternative is to use a frozen bag of vegetables such as peas if an ice pack is not available. Apply the cold compress on the affected area at least every day until the inflammation is minimized.
  • Wrap the knee using a compression bandage in order to help in minimizing the swelling but avoid wrapping it too tight since it can disrupt normal blood circulation.
  • When resting, keep the feet elevated above the level of the heart.

  • Practice tai chi since it helps with people suffering from osteoarthritis to minimize the pain and helps increase the range of motion.
  • Perform regular exercises in order to keep the joint moving, lessen pain in the knee and increase the range of motion. Swimming and aerobics also helps with the condition.
  • Avoid being overweight to avoid aggravating the condition.
  • Use a heating pad in order to help rest the knee when reclining. It also helps in preventing the joints from becoming stiff.
  • Make an ointment by mixing ginger, cinnamon, mastic and sesame oil. This mixture helps lessen pain on the affected area.
  • Mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 2 cups of filtered water. The individual should sip the mixture every day until the condition is totally healed. Apple cider vinegar helps to lessen pain in the knee, dissolve the accumulation of mineral and harmful toxins within the affected area and also helps restore joint lubrication.
  • Another alternative is adding 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to a bath using hot water. Immerse the affected knee for at least 30 minutes once every day for a few days.
  • Eat a balanced diet in order to help provide good strength for the joint especially when suffering from arthritis. Foods that are packed with minerals and vitamins should be added to the diet. Vitamin D, calcium, iron, magnesium and fiber can also be added to the diet.
  • Using turmeric can also help lessen inflammation and also strengthen the joints.
